Bristol puts itself in the picture

A brilliant example of screen tourism in action has just landed in the West of England.
Visit West has launched Starring Bristol a new screen-tourism campaign using a blockbuster inspired film to encourage visitors to discover locations featured in productions including Rivals, Wolf Hall, The Outlaws, Skins, Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.
The campaign goes beyond simply showing where something was filmed. Visit West has partnered with the SetJetters app to showcase more than 50 scenes across Bristol and Bath allowing visitors to find locations, recreate shots and then explore the attractions, hospitality and experiences surrounding them.
And that's where screen tourism gets particularly interesting: turning the moment of recognition on screen into movement around a destination - and ultimiately visitor spend.
With VisitBritain research showing that seven in ten people who have travelled in the UK during the past decade have visited a film or TV location, campaigns like this demonstrate the scale of the opportunity.
